MedicalES centers provide patients with 9 state-of-the-art MRI machines.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a state-of-the-art imaging technique that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to provide high-resolution images of a selected region of the human body, providing accurate and precise anatomical details and information about the relevant pathology or lesion.
The equipment used in our centers is state-of-the-art, providing high-resolution images. Our equipment is considered state-of-the-art in the field of magnetic resonance imaging—it is equipped with the latest diagnostic software, which allows for high-fidelity examination of all anatomical regions of the body in an extremely short amount of time. MRI can be used to examine all organs, but it is the method of choice in neurology and neurosurgery (central nervous system, spine), urological (pelvic organs), musculoskeletal (knees, hip joints, etc.), as well as in vascular pathology through noninvasive visualization (with or without contrast agent) of the circulatory system.
Compared to CT scanning, it offers the advantage of direct multiplanar imaging, as well as three-dimensional reconstructions that allow for the assessment of complex structures or lesions.
SIGNA Pioneer
The SIGNA Pioneer AIR Edition magnetic resonance imaging system (at the Phoenix and Riverside 2 clinics), manufactured by General Electric, combines the power of a 3T magnet with the latest technologies in the field of magnetic resonance imaging, ensuring a diagnosis of the highest accuracy.
The SIGNA Pioneer AIR Edition is the first magnetic resonance imaging system in Romania to feature image reconstruction technology that uses artificial intelligence — AIR Recon DL. This ensures much clearer images in less time compared to traditional image reconstruction technologies.
The system is also equipped with the world’s lightest and most flexible antenna — the AIR Coil — which is designed to conform to the human body like a comfortable blanket, significantly improving patient comfort during the exam while also providing a much better signal, resulting in high-quality images and shorter scan times.
SIGNA Voyager
The SIGNA Voyager magnetic resonance imaging system (Izvor Clinic), manufactured by General Electric, is revolutionizing medical imaging. Equipped with TDI (Total Digital Imaging) technology, the SIGNA Voyager delivers exceptional image quality, far surpassing conventional MRI systems. This system increases the productivity of the medical imaging department, and with its 70-cm bore and antennas featuring the latest technologies, it ensures greater patient comfort.
The new SIGNA Works platform redefines productivity for all imaging techniques available on the magnetic resonance imaging system. The standard applications available on the SIGNA Voyager system offer a comprehensive set of high-quality, high-efficiency capabilities that enable the achievement of desired results across the entire range of examinations (neurology, body, cardiovascular, orthopedics, breast imaging, oncology, pediatrics).
SIGNA Explorer
The SIGNA Explorer 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging system (at the Pantelimon, Riverside 1, and Târgoviște clinics), manufactured by General Electric, sets new standards in medical imaging. The magnet’s homogeneity and the system’s advanced technologies ensure a fast examination with the highest-quality clinical information and guarantee total patient comfort. The GE SIGNA Explorer system, through its READY Brain option, delivers the highest-quality images in neurological studies. Regarding the spine, the ability to scan a wide area and motion correction techniques allow for the acquisition of clear images that are resistant to artifacts caused by patient movement and cerebrospinal fluid flow.
The device is equipped with IDEAL software, designed specifically for scanning difficult areas, such as the neck and spine, where conventional scanning techniques fail due to non-uniform magnetic fields.
SIGNA Creator
Built on the legacy of SIGNA, the pioneer in magnetic resonance imaging systems, the SIGNA Creator (Dorobanți, Riverside 1, and Riverside 2 clinics) delivers exceptional image quality and ensures detailed clinical information is obtained, using advanced software such as that for motion artifact correction.
The benefits of an MRI scan include its accuracy in detecting structural, compositional, and functional abnormalities in the body, as well as the fact that it can be repeated as often as necessary without any contraindications.
Information About Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) allows for the visualization of the finest details within the human body.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare for an MRI?
An MRI scan does not require any special preparation. Generally, no special diet is necessary before the exam. You may go about your normal activities and are advised to take your regular medications as prescribed by your doctor. For an abdominal MRI, you may be asked not to eat for 2–3 hours before the exam.
Before the exam, please fill out a questionnaire with information regarding the reason for the exam and any possible contraindications for an MRI. You may be asked to provide recent blood test results, particularly for urea and creatinine, which are indicators of kidney function; depending on these values, the intravenous injection of a paramagnetic contrast agent may or may not be permitted. Metal objects (watches, keys, coins, jewelry) are strongly attracted to the magnet, can injure you, and are prohibited in the MRI exam room. Their presence may compromise image quality. The MRI machine can damage any card with a magnetic stripe, such as credit cards, as well as electronic or mechanical devices (cell phones, watches, etc.). Jewelry can conduct electromagnetic waves and may become hot. Please do not wear clothing with metal inserts.
What questions are included in the MRI questionnaire?
The most important information concerns absolute or relative contraindications for the examination.
- People with pacemakers, prosthetic limbs, metal rods, or any other type of metal objects implanted in the body (such as shrapnel, e.g., in the eye), heart valves, intracranial devices (aneurysm clips), magnetic chemotherapy pumps, etc.;
- Some prostheses, stents, or metal implants may be MRI-compatible, but the physician requesting the MRI exam must specify this;
- Tell your doctor if you have recently had surgery;
- Intrauterine devices inserted 10–15 years ago are not MRI-compatible;
- Tell your doctor if you have allergies to medications or other substances; for an MRI, this is not an absolute contraindication to the administration of contrast dye, and taking an antihistamine beforehand reduces the risk of adverse reactions;
- Claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces) is a relative contraindication; our staff is available to help you become familiar with the device and overcome this fear;
- Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or kidney dysfunction or failure (these conditions may contraindicate the use of contrast dye).
How is the investigation conducted?
The patient is positioned on a movable table that will be inserted into an examination field open at both ends. An “antenna” is placed around the region of interest to receive signals from your body. The table is then moved into the examination field—which is ventilated and has its own light source—so that the region of interest is positioned in the center of the magnet.
You will be asked to lie still and cooperate during the exam to ensure the best possible image quality; depending on the type of exam, you may be given instructions regarding your breathing. All MRI machines make noise during the exam; this may cause slight discomfort, but it is a normal technical occurrence. During the exam, a technician will monitor you continuously. You will be given an emergency rubber “pump” that you can press in case of an emergency, so the exam can be stopped at any time at your request.
How long does an MRI exam take?
- Preparing for the exam and completing the questionnaire may take about 15 minutes;
- A typical MRI scan takes 20–40 minutes per segment, but may take up to an hour if necessary (e.g., administration of contrast dye);
- It is not always possible to anticipate the need for intravenous contrast; this decision can only be made by the radiologist during the examination, based on the lesions identified; contrast allows for further characterization of the lesion and a more specific diagnosis.
Points to Remember
- You can resume your daily activities immediately after the exam;
- An MRI scan is painless (completely non-invasive).
- The paramagnetic contrast agent administered intravenously may very rarely cause adverse effects;
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant; an MRI scan may sometimes be performed during the second or third trimester of pregnancy in special circumstances; the use of contrast dye is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
